Prague is a city I loved discovering for its remarkable architecture and atmosphere. Between its colourful Baroque buildings, Gothic churches and medieval Astronomical Clock – it is a true paradise for art and history lovers like me!
I also had the chance to visit the capital in December, with its festive ambience and many Christmas markets – a great season to visit Prague.

In this article, you will also find the best things to do, what to see and the top green hotels in each location. I selected these accommodations by researching on ETIC Hotels, Ecobnb and bookdifferent and by carefully reading their website and looking for green certification.
However, I understand these hotels are not the cheapest and the most budget-friendly places to stay in Prague, but they are the most eco-friendly. Unfortunately, mixing the two is not always easy, and I have tried to select accommodations that focus on making a difference whilst being affordable. 1- Old Town: the best area for first-time visitors
Located east of the Vltava River, Staré Mesto is the historic heart of Prague and is considered one of the best areas to stay when visiting this stunning medieval city for the first time.
This lively cobblestoned area is centred around the spectacular Old Town Square, with its gorgeous Gothic architecture and iconic landmarks you should add to your bucket list.
Its atmospheric charm, abundance of historical sites and proximity to the top highlights of Prague make it one of the best neighbourhoods for first-time travellers who want to be within walking distance of the action.
Although understandably busy, the area is filled with a huge selection of restaurants, bars, cafés and shops, and the bustling tourist-filled streets add an irresistible buzz, which is impossible to dislike.
Start your sightseeing adventure at the Old Town Square and check out the beautiful Astronomical Clock, Old Town Hall and the Gothic Church of Our Lady Before Tyn.
Snap pictures of the pastel-coloured buildings and cobbled pavements before taking a stroll across the iconic Charles Bridge and marvelling at the fairytale skyline, especially during the winter months when everything is dusted with snow.
You can also take a humbling visit to the Jewish Quarter and learn more about the tragic history of the Czech Jewish community during WWII.

This hilltop neighbourhood is located west of the Vltava River and lies in the shadow of the UNESCO-listed Prague Castle. Quaint, charming and full of character, Malá Strana has a distinctly romantic feel with its exclusive hotels, traditional restaurants and the majestic castle sitting proudly overlooking the area.
The characterful streets, pastel-hued buildings and historical landmarks of Malá Strana make it one of the best areas in Prague for couples to visit. Foodies will love staying in Vinohrady and will be spoiled for choice with the selection of international dishes to sample. You will find cuisines from all over the world, so arrive hungry and get ready to feast!
When the sun shines, Riegrovy Sady Park is a fantastic place to enjoy a picnic and a stroll. Head there at sunset for a spectacular display of colours with the city as a backdrop.
The neighbourhood is also home to Beer Garden Riegrovy Sady, one of the largest and most popular beer gardens in Prague, where locals and travellers gather and enjoy drinks in good company. An activity not to miss as one of the coolest things to do in the capital.

You will not find many historical architecture or heritage buildings here, but you will find an irresistible local feel with traditional restaurants, buzzing coffee shops and plenty of leafy green spaces.
Head to Karlín Square and visit the immense St. Cyril and Methodius Church, one of the largest in the Czech Republic. Also, try to visit on a Saturday for the popular farmer’s market set in the square.
In addition, Lyckovo Namesti Square is a picturesque spot with beautiful gardens to stroll around and admire the views of the beautiful primary school overlooking the park.

Considered to be a ‘gritty’ district, with rough edges, in recent years, trendy restaurants and bars have put this area on the map.
If you are looking to party and have a good time in Prague, then Žižkov is the best district to stay in because of its abundant nightlife and bustling atmosphere. It is also conveniently located close to the Old Town, so you can combine historical sightseeing with a fun night out.
Head to the TV Tower for dinner and fancy cocktails with panoramic views from the observation deck. And for food lovers, check out the Jirák Farmers’ Market, which takes place in spring and summer and is a great spot to pick up some local produce for a picnic on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square.
Finally, history buffs should add a visit to the New Jewish Cemetery to their bucket list, which is the resting place of many prominent Jewish figures.

This small district consists of just a few streets and is filled with historical and religious sites, fairytale buildings and picturesque gardens.
History buffs will be delighted to stay in the heart of the Castle District and be close to some of the most interesting historical landmarks of Prague.
Alongside the incredible castle complex, which in itself is an immense full day exploring the castle highlights, there are many other fascinating sites to see, including the Strahov Monastery with its stunning frescoed library rooms and fantastic brewery, the Lobkowicz Palace with its incredible collection of artworks, and the Golden Lane, a picturesque street where the novelist Franz Kafka once lived.
There are also several incredible palaces in the district, each with unique architectural features and significant stories.

One of the smallest neighbourhoods in Prague is the quiet hilltop Letná, situated next to the historic Prague Castle and the Hradčany district. With stunning elevated river views and a plethora of trendy restaurants, bars and cafés, Letná is the hidden gem district of Prague, with plenty to offer relaxed and laid-back travellers.
Letná is nestled between two beautiful parks, Letná Park and Stromovka, which is the largest park in the city and is often referred to as the ‘Central Park’ of Prague.
As one of the most peaceful neighbourhoods with lots of urban charm, you will not find tourist-trap restaurants or hordes of people here: Letná is an authentic off-the-beaten-path district.
Head to Letná Park for the best beer garden in town. This famous spot offers wonderful panoramic views of the city and is a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a delicious Czech beer in the sunshine.
Stromovka Park is another must-visit spot with plenty to offer travellers of all ages. Adults can stroll the gorgeous grounds or rent a bicycle to explore, whilst the little ones can find playgrounds, a planetarium, picnic areas and lots of nature to discover. The park is the green heart of the city and a beautiful place to discover whatever the season.
